My journey and observations so far. Sifu Joseph Lee has documented most of the Lee Shing ‘s teachings but they are written in Traditional Chinese Characters ( cello-taped A4 sheets) I even took the time to learn Chinese to read and write so nothing would be lost in translation. There is no outside influence all the forms are exactly how he was taught by Lee Shing. One of the things I’m hearing is that Ip Man did omit a lot of things and withheld a lot of information because he deemed it necessary. You can see this from his direct students such as Duncan Leung, Ip Chun, Wong Sheung Leung all have different interpretations of what was taught to them Sifu use to ask me a lot of questions about Hong Kong the big names of all the Wing Chun guys here how and what they were teaching. My time with Sifu is just being like in a Ip Man movie, having his attention going to his place and the no frills and simple life style he has, there is no need to come to Hong Kong as it’s a authentic as it can be Student/Teacher relationship and a skill being passed down the generations. Sifu’s is very traditional and even had me Bai Si to him. (Bai Si 拜師 for those who want to google what this is ) clip here for those interested https://youtu.be/Yvv-yw_gaXMObviously I speak to Sifu’s in Cantonese as he is more comfortable with that. One thing that I wanted to share with the group when I first started with Sifu Joseph Lee we had no idea that we were from the same ancestral part of Hong Kong and both are part of a nomadic clan called Hakka (客家) meaning we have our own unique dialect to communicate it was only when he realised this he began to open up even more. Sifu still rings me regularly to almost every couple of days to see how I’m getting on in Hong Kong and how many people I’m currently teaching. Please feel free to ask any questions!
