Bruce Lees 5 ways of Attack

Updated: Apr 23

Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do is a martial art that emphasizes simplicity, directness, and efficiency. Lee believed that there were five ways to attack an opponent:

* Single Direct Attack (SAA): This is a simple attack that is delivered directly to the opponent's target.

* Attack by Combination (ABC): This is an attack that combines two or more techniques.

* Progressive Indirect Attack (PIA): This is an attack that begins with a feint or distraction and then follows up with a more powerful attack.

* Hand Immobilization Attack (HIA): This is an attack that uses trapping or immobilization to prevent the opponent from using their hands.

* Attack by Drawing (ABD): This is an attack that uses a false attack to draw the opponent into a vulnerable position.

Lee believed that the best way to choose an attack was to assess the situation and choose the method that was most likely to be successful. He also believed that it was important to be adaptable and to be able to change your attack if necessary.

The Single Direct Attack is the most basic and straightforward attack. It is simply a matter of striking the opponent with your weapon or your fists. The Attack by Combination is a more complex attack that combines two or more techniques. This can be a useful attack if you are trying to overwhelm the opponent or if you are trying to confuse them. The Progressive Indirect Attack is a deceptive attack that begins with a feint or distraction and then follows up with a more powerful attack. This can be a very effective attack if the opponent is not expecting it.

The Hand Immobilization Attack is an attack that uses trapping or immobilization to prevent the opponent from using their hands. This can be a very effective attack if you can get the opponent's hands tied up. The Attack by Drawing is a false attack that uses a false attack to draw the opponent into a vulnerable position. This can be a very effective attack if you can get the opponent to overextend themselves.

Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do is a powerful and versatile martial art that can be used in a variety of situations. The five methods of attack outlined by Lee are just a few of the many techniques that can be used in Jeet Kune Do.
