Legacy of Yip Man Wing Chun - Alive and well in London

Updated: Apr 7

In 1962 Lee Shing left Hong Kong and came to reside in London, he opened a famous restaurant in London Chinatown.

Lee had been awarded presidency of the yip man, athletic Association and represented him in Europe. This, unfortunately, is a largely unknown fact, and certainly many in today's wing chun community are not familiar with his name, or indeed his importance, nevertheless, in the late 70s and early 1980s, his name was much more recognised with publications such as combat magazine regularly interviewing some of his more important students, and with the help of Bey Logan raising the publics awareness of this quiet, grandmaster residing in London.

I was fortunate enough to meet one of his most senior students over 20 years ago, and have been training on a one-to-one basis with Joseph Lee ever since.

Joseph is certainly one of the very few who can teach authentic traditional wing chun direct from the source.

If you are genuinely interested in learning "real" authentic wing chun from the source and not some water down version then please get in contact, join our online community and enquire about classes.

We are located in Southeast London, sidcup, Bromley and kent. I look forward to sharing with you the knowledge that has been passed down to me.

As you all know I’m teaching in sophisticated Hong Kong I can honestly say that what Master Joseph Lee has taught me in London is well above most notable Master in Hong Kong know. I still have students from other schools asking me how I know this and how I know that and how come I can overcome them so easily. It’s not watered down directly from the source.

Michael I hear what you say and am not surprised at all., as you know I visited Hong Kong and trained with several famous and notable sifu in HK in 1994 at their schools and I thought my level was very good - it was only after when I came back to U.K. and was introduced to sifu Joseph Lee in London that I discovered that I knew very little and much of what I had been taught or learnt was misconceived and misunderstood.. from the forms and applications plus the energies and development of power .. so much has been lost or diluted from the original source
